Product Categories

Product categories help you organize your inventory into logical groups. Instead of scrolling through a flat list of hundreds of products, you can filter and report by category.

Common Categories for FFL Dealers

Handguns
Rifles
Shotguns
Ammunition
Accessories
Optics
Services

Setting Up Categories

Go to Inventory → Configuration → Product Categories.
Click New.
Enter the category name (e.g., "Handguns").
Set the Parent Category if you want subcategories (e.g., "Handguns" under "Firearms").
Click Save.

Assigning a Category

When creating or editing a product, find the Product Category field and select the appropriate category from the dropdown.

Why Categories Matter

Filtering — Quickly show only handguns, only ammo, etc.
Reporting — See revenue and inventory value by category
Accounting — Categories can have default income and expense accounts for automatic bookkeeping

Tip: Keep your categories simple to start. You can always add subcategories later as your product list grows.
