Cash Drawers & Payment Terminals
Cash Drawers & Payment Terminals
If you run a retail counter, you may use a cash drawer and a credit card payment terminal alongside CloudFFL.
Cash Drawers
A cash drawer stores your cash, coins, and checks during the day. Most cash drawers connect to your receipt printer via an RJ12 cable (the small phone-jack style connector). When a cash sale is completed and a receipt prints, the drawer opens automatically.
Common Models
- APG Vasario — Popular for retail, multiple sizes
- Star Micronics Cash Drawers — Built to pair with Star printers
Setup
- Connect the cash drawer to your receipt printer using the RJ12 cable.
- The drawer opens automatically when a receipt is printed (if using the POS app).
- No separate software or drivers are needed.
Payment Terminals
Payment terminals handle credit and debit card transactions. In CloudFFL, payment processing is integrated with NMI (Network Merchants Inc.) for physical terminal payments and can also use Authorize.net for online/invoice payments.
Common Terminal Types
- Countertop terminals — Sit on your counter, customer swipes/taps/inserts card
- Virtual terminal — Process card payments through your computer (no physical terminal needed)
Basic Setup
- Set up your NMI merchant account (if not already done).
- Configure the NMI payment integration in CloudFFL.
- Connect your physical terminal if using one.
Payment Processing Setup
For detailed setup of NMI payment terminals, Authorize.net configuration, and all payment processing features, see the Payment Processing book. It covers:
- Connecting your NMI account and setting up physical card readers
- Configuring NMI Key-in mode for phone orders
- Enabling and connecting Authorize.net for online and ACH/eCheck payments
- Taking card payments on sales orders, at the POS, and on your website
- Processing refunds and voids
Important: Never store credit card numbers in CloudFFL or write them down. All card processing goes through the secure NMI or Authorize.net gateway.
