Setting Up a Shipping Method

Before you can ship orders through ShipStation, you need to create a shipping method. A shipping method tells CloudFFL which carrier, service, and settings to use when shipping an order.

Creating a New Shipping Method

  1. Go to Inventory > Configuration > Shipping Methods (or search for "Shipping Methods" in the top search bar).
  2. Click Create.
  3. Fill in the basic information:
    • Name — A clear name your team will recognize, like "UPS Ground" or "FedEx 2-Day"
    • Provider — Select ShipStation from the dropdown

Choosing Your Workflow

Under the ShipStation Configuration section, you will see a Workflow option with two choices:

Label — Choose this if you want CloudFFL to automatically generate a shipping label when an order is shipped. You will need to select a specific carrier and service. This is best when:

  • You pack and ship from the same place you manage orders
  • You want labels printed automatically
  • You want shipping costs calculated at checkout

Export — Choose this if you want CloudFFL to send the order to ShipStation as a pending shipment. Your warehouse team then picks the carrier and prints the label from ShipStation. This is best when:

  • Your warehouse team handles shipping decisions
  • You want flexibility to choose the best carrier at ship time
  • You have a dedicated shipping station running ShipStation

Configuring the Shipping Method

For Label workflow:

  1. ShipStation Instance — Select your connected ShipStation account
  2. Carrier — Select the carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx)
  3. Service — Select the service level (e.g., Ground, 2nd Day Air)
  4. Package Type — Optionally select a default package type
  5. Delivery Confirmation — Choose the level of confirmation:
    • None
    • Delivery Confirmation (proof of delivery)
    • Signature Required
    • Adult Signature Required
    • Direct Signature Required
  6. Label Format — PDF (most common), PNG, or ZPL (for thermal printers)
  7. Label Size — 4x6 (standard shipping label) or Letter (8.5x11)

For Export workflow:

  1. ShipStation Instance — Select your connected ShipStation account
  2. Carrier and Service — Optional. If left blank, your warehouse team chooses in ShipStation

Click Save when you are done.

Tip: You can create multiple shipping methods — for example, one for "UPS Ground" and another for "FedEx 2-Day." This lets you (or your customers) choose the right option for each order.
