Applying Discounts & Price Changes
Applying Discounts & Price Changes
Sometimes you need to adjust prices — a loyalty discount for a regular customer, a markdown on a scratched display model, or a negotiated price on a trade deal. The POS makes this simple.
Per-Line Discount (Percentage)
- Click the order line you want to discount to select it.
- Click the Disc button on the numpad.
- Enter the discount percentage (e.g., 10 for 10% off).
- The line updates to show the discounted price and the discount percentage.
Example: A customer is buying a holster priced at $49.99. You give them 10% off. Select the line, click Disc, type 10. The line now shows $44.99.
Price Override
- Click the order line to select it.
- Click the Price button on the numpad.
- Type the new price.
- The line updates with the new amount.
Example: A display model Sig P320 is normally $579.99 but you agreed to sell it for $525 because of cosmetic wear. Select the line, click Price, type 525.
Global Discount (Entire Order)
If your POS is configured with a global discount option:
- Add all products to the order.
- Click the Discount button (may be in the menu or toolbar, depending on your configuration).
- Enter the discount percentage to apply to the entire order.
When to Use Discounts
- Loyalty / repeat customer — Percentage discount as a thank-you
- Damaged or display item — Price override to a lower amount
- Negotiated deal — Price override to the agreed amount
- Bundle / package deal — Global discount on the whole order
Important: Check with your manager about your discount authority. Most shops have limits on how much a cashier can discount without approval.
